Now that I’m getting closer and closer to having our second baby, I am officially in nesting mode. I’ve found that I don’t have to buy nearly as many things as we did for our first. The best part of preparing for my second baby is that I know what actually works for me.
With my first baby, we went through a lot of trial and error. Things I truly thought we would use constantly, we ended up never using. You can read all about the things I didn’t save for our second baby here.
I got to thinking that other mamas might be in the same position, especially first time moms that are kind of just guessing about what they’ll use like I did. I decided to compile a list of my favorite baby items that I wouldn’t want to live without. Here are the things I absolutely loved and can’t wait to use for our second baby!
This post is all about products I will use again for my second baby.

1. Baby Nail Filer
This baby nail trimmer was a lifesaver with my first. So much so that I will never use anything else. It’s more of a nail filer, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally cutting your baby’s tiny fingers.
2. Tubby Todd Bath Products
We learned the hard way that our daughter is sensitive to ingredients in lots of products. We even had to be careful with certain types of clothing. Tubby Todd bath products never gave her the reactions that other brands did. We’ll skip the cheaper options and go with Tubby Todd from the start with our second baby.
3. Silicone Baby Brush
We ended up loving this silicone baby brush during bath times because it was so gentle on her sensitive skin. Before I had my daughter, I honestly didn’t even know these existed. Now, we use one every day at bathtime. I already have more in my Amazon cart ready to order to be ready for our new baby!
4. Bamboo Pajamas
When we were still trying to figure out our daughter’s eczema and all of her triggers, we ended up switching to bamboo pajamas. This is our favorite brand that I highly recommend and will definitely be using again for our newborn. I’m convinced that our daughter was able to sleep longer after we finally made the switch to bamboo pajamas because she wasn’t so uncomfortable through the night.
5. Bedside Crib Bassinet
This was one of my favorite purchases by far! Instead of having our baby asleep in another room and having to make multiple trips there throughout the night, she was in our room, safe in her bassinet. This is the exact one we have. It was easy to set up and is easy to clean – super important when dealing with newborn blowouts!
6. Lovevery Toys
I swear I saw an ad for Lovevery every time I picked up my phone when I was pregnant. We finally decided to try them out and I am so happy we did! Their toys are super sturdy and engaging. Our daughter loved them so much, I regretted not buying them sooner. I’m excited to try the earliest boxes with our new baby!
7. Sound Machine
If you do nothing else, invest in a sound machine from day one. We use The Hatch sound machine and our only regret is not buying it sooner. It’s become our little one’s off switch at night and at nap time. I truly don’t know how we ever lived without it.
8. Owlet Baby Monitor
I can’t begin to tell you how much peace of mind this thing brought me. I decided on the Owlet because it gives real-time notifications if your baby’s readings fall outside of a certain range. Knowing this technology was helping me to keep an eye on my baby while I slept helped me to relax and get better sleep at night. For my husband and I, the Owlet was well worth the investment.
9. Onesies – Lots of Them!
I saved so many gender-neutral onesies from our daughter and will probably buy even more. Now that I know what to expect in the newborn phase, I realize I can’t possibly have enough onesies. I even keep extras in our car, just in case! These bamboo onesies are great if you are concerned about your baby’s sensitive skin.
10. Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent
Throughout our journey with my daughter’s eczema, we found that fragrances were a big trigger for her. This laundry detergent makes her clothes feel and smell clean, but without causing any of the skin issues we were trying so hard to avoid.
11. Baby Carrier
If you’re a mom already, you know that once you find a baby carrier you love, you probably will not even bother to try another one. This is the one I ended up falling in love with. I saved it and it is one of the number one things I will use again as soon as baby number two arrives!
12. Bamboo Clothing
I already mentioned that we adore our daughter’s bamboo pajamas, but this led me down the rabbit hole of bamboo baby clothing. We love this brand and gravitate toward bamboo baby clothes because I’m confident it won’t irritate her skin. Plus, I’ve noticed that bamboo clothing washes beautifully with our favorite gentle detergent. I still buy cute outfits when I just can’t pass them up, but I try to use bamboo options whenever possible.
